Aylesbury Vale Academy - Buckinghamshire

Overview

Sponsored by the Church of England Diocese of Oxford and Buckinghamshire County Council the new Academy accommodates 1500 students aged from 11 to 18. We masterplanned the school at the heart of the new Berryfields housing development. The project also includes a nursery and primary school on the adjacent site.

To emphasise the history of the site we created a timeline that runs from the main entrance through the building and then winds around the series of science gardens at the rear of the school. It links the Roman remains found on the site, through to the dates of the notable scientific discoveries and the present day.

The primary school has a range of secure intimate garden spaces outside each ground floor classroom and a larger play space for more energetic activities. The primary school has its own timeline that picks out the main calendar events of a year.
