Located on a greenfield site just west of the town of Dumfries the new Royal Infirmary is designed to minimise the impact the new hospital may have on the nearby town and the surrounding scenic countryside. We undertook an extensive landscape and visual assessment ensuring successful mitigation of impacts to support of the planning application.
The report focused on the impact of the hospital on several predetermined key views to this greenfield site. It also assessed the impact of the hospital flues on the wider landscape up to 10km away at the request of the local planning authority. A computer generated zone of theoretical visibility study highlighted the study area and the areas impacted by the development. We used the LVIA findings to aid the design of the hospital and mitigation proposals and, consequently, we successfully obtained planning permission for the development.
