Churchill Gardens - Andover

Overview

Our involvement with the Ministry of Defence site at Andover stretches back over a decade with the first scheme for the Defence Logistics Organisation. Following a review of the estate and the relocation of the Army HQ, we were commissioned through the South East Regional Prime Contract to rationalise the estate and to design new gardens on the south side of Monxton Road.

The Churchill Gardens took inspiration from the ecological parkland, previously designed by us, to create a new commemorative garden with a water feature and perennial planting in the prairie style that suits the chalk soils so well. Perennial borders and yew hedges define the spaces to give formality and geometry to the design. A reflective pool forms the focal point of the gardens.

The gardens form an important pedestrian link to both the north and south sides of the site. These routes are highlighted by avenues of semi-mature Hornbeams.
