Macmillan Cancer Support - Leighton Hospital

Overview

As part of the new Oncology Day Unit at Leighton Hospital, we were appointed to design the new courtyard for the Mid Cheshire Hospital Trust

Based on the concept of the 'healing landscape', the oncology courtyard is designed to provide an attractive interesting view from each window of the unit, creating stimulating views from the Chemotherapy Suite where patients can sit for hours at a time. Working closely with Andrew Frost, the sculptor, we incorporated his work into our design to create interest and focal points throughout the courtyard.

Key Features

  • A series of different spaces and seating areas to give patients, both young and adult, a choice and control over their environment
  • Provision of shade within the courtyard allows patients to have chemotherapy treatment outside during dry weather
  • The design includes an extensive arts programme
