MoD Abbey Wood - Bristol

This office complex for the defence procurement Executive in Bristol, was one of the largest landscape projects in Europe.  We were commissioned to masterplan and develop detailed proposals for the 40 hectare site, including a two hectare attenuation lake, cascades and fountains.  Our concept was to integrate the extensive office buildings within a woodland setting.

The formality of the architecture and masterplan were reinforced through the use of large scale avenue planting. This geometric framework is contrasted by more informal woodland planting, including an arboretum, semi mature trees, management of an ancient woodland and interior atrium planting. The design also made provision for a new station and rail link into Bristol.

This scheme has been the recipient of many prestigious awards including the MIPIM Office Building of the Year.
