Creation of public realm and residential community on the doorstep of the internationally important Edgbaston Stadium.
Fira was commissioned to work on Birmingham’s largest ‘build to rent’ (BTR) development outside the city centre. The 375 apartment scheme delivers much-needed high specification new homes to rent for a wide demographic. We collaborated closely with Warwickshire County Cricket Club to create this unique setting for the users of the stadium and new community of residents.
A private podium garden was designed at the heart of the building, which provides external amenities for residents as well as a stunning roof terrace for outside entertainment, a residents’ gym, 340 parking spaces and 200 secure cycle storage spaces. Our commission was extended to deliver a new entrance plaza and surrounding landscape for Edgbaston Stadium.
Fira’s design provides a beautiful setting for residents, and welcoming and greener entrance for the thousands of visitors using the stadium, working closely with the contractor, Winvic to ensure that the plaza is delivered in time for the Commonwealth Games.
The design of Edgbaston Residences prioritises the wellness of residents by targeting Fitwel certification, an international standard of rating a building based on its occupiers’ health. The building also achieves the Home’s Quality Mark certification, making it one of the first BTR developments to obtain this accreditation, attesting to high standards of build, running costs, health and wellbeing, and sustainability.
Fira worked with CRTKL Architects on the residences, Woo Architects on the stadium and Winvic Construction.
