We worked closely with the multidisciplinary team to create a new City Academy for the Corporation of London on an awkward and difficult inner city site in Southwark, London. The site is bisected by a road and access between the two halves is via bridge arches. The school building is on the eastern side of the road, while the sports facilities are on the western side. Our aim was to create spaces and facilities that provided for all forms of play and social interaction during the school day, including both active and passive pursuits for groups and individuals.
We created a landscape setting of quality that makes a positive contribution to its surroundings. The quality of the project was recognised by the Prime Minister’s Better Public Buildings Award.
