One of the most successful outcomes was the creation of an attractive school environment which included a range of “inspired and unusual” ideas identified through the consultation process.

The existing school was located on a steeply sloping site with poor links between the buildings and a very low quality external environment. The landscape objectives were to redevelop the site to provide a high quality environment based on the principles of the Outdoor Classroom.

To identify what this outdoor environment for learning needed to provide for study, play and social interaction, a programme of workshops was set up with Year 7 pupils and the Learning through Landscapes Trust. This resulted in the design of a series of curriculum gardens covering subjects including maths, geography, science, horticulture, fitness and a habitat area. Many of the ideas were generated by the pupils and these were adapted and incorporated into the overall design.
