Delivering learning through the landscape.

We designed and delivered five new schools in Bromsgrove; Sidemoor, Alvechurch and Parkside primary, and two secondary schools for north and south Bromsgrove, all with landscape and nature at their heart.

Sidemoor and Alvechurch were ‘greenfield’ sites and their rural locations offered great potential for habitat creation, biodiversity net gain and nature areas, supporting their ‘Forest School’ status. Our designs for all three schools incorporated a variety of activities linked to nature, ecology and the environment.

A more formal design layout is articulated with the use of strong tree avenues and geometric shapes for the secondary schools. In these locations, varied landscape typologies were created for a range of sporting activities and a hierarchy of teaching spaces that doubled up as social spaces, along with biodiversity net gain opportunities. Each of the schemes provided an attractive setting which enhanced both the wider site and the school buildings, and also created an external environment to encourage and develop play, learning and sport in a stimulating environment.
