Sensory gardens are designed to stimulate and engage people’s senses through the use of plants and variety of hard landscape materials.
Like many creative and cultural institutions, the MAC plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life and acting as a community focal point. The sensory garden was part of a wider renovation of the Arts Centre to improve the visitor experience, provide a better environment, and extend the range of inclusive services. The garden provides a tranquil and flexible meeting place in a previously derelict corner of the site, with the sensory garden linking to a new artist studio and other refurbished spaces to provide a venue for ‘garden gigs’, private hire, and arts courses. The accessible space is available to people of all ages and abilities.
