The design provides a unique setting to this regeneration of a neglected piece of Birmingham’s historic industrial heritage, creating parkland and green streets at the heart of a new community.

The site is bordered by a branch of the Birmingham Canal known as Clissold Passage, and the A457 Dudley Road. It lies at centre of Birmingham’s Victorian industrial heartland with a strong relationship to the canal waterways; a connection that has been lost in recent years.

The new community offers high quality housing, public realm and an important connection to nature through its comprehensive landscape design. The design enhances and promotes access to the canals for residents, visitors and leisure users to enjoy. The canal side footpaths link with the development at Icknield Port Loop, which lies immediately to the south, strengthening connections with the adjacent areas and providing important recreational and environmental benefits.

Fira designed this project to gain planning approval for Galliard Homes, with key benefits including natural and semi natural planting for biodiversity net gain, and creating a mosaic of habitats, along with the sustainable management of water run off throughout the site.
