An opportunity to transform the hospital and the wider site to serve communities for generations to come; Barts Health NHS Trust’s overarching vision is for a brand-new hospital to serve local communities, improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities.
The wider site site will offer up to 1,500 new homes (including 50% affordable homes), a community health building, new green and public spaces, better transport and access, and community facilities such as retail and leisure.
Fira, alongside Ryder Architecture, helped craft the unique masterplan with landscape at its core, linking the site with both the wider Epping Forest, and the existing local neighbourhoods. The masterplan blends the new hospital with the new communities, ensuring that the health benefits of the landscape are available to patients, staff, their families, and local residents. Our design offers contact with nature on the doorstep, throughout the site. Roadways and routes through the design have been crafted to promote walking and cycling, and encourage people to exercise, connecting into a wider network of routes through the adjacent forest. Water management is a key consideration of the project with rain gardens, porous paving and attenuation basins included throughout, with a particular focus on the Fille Brook to the south.
